Samsung & Adidas Unveil 'miCoach': The Ultimate Fitness Phone

Adidas and Samsung teamed up to unveil ‘miCoach’, a product combining mobile technology with sport innovation. The announcement was made at the Palau de les Arts Reina Sofia, when they’ve describes their creation to be a “real-time training system” that brings motivation, inspiration and will to athletes who wish to reach their goals in terms of training.

“miCoach is an exemplary manifestation of the Adidas brand message of innovation and inspiration,” President and CEO of Adidas Erich Stamminger said. “Adidas has been a leader in the sports industry for more than 80 years, and the miCoach initiative with Samsung continues this tradition in an effort to inspire and enable athletes at all levels.”

The collaboration between the two famous brands began approximately two years ago, with one single purpose: to conquer the market with the most advanced training product out there. Supported by the Athletes’ Performance Institute (API), a training and sport research centre at Arizona State University, miCoach is said to be a must for athletes with a purpose.

“Samsung and Adidas share a love of sports that transcends different cultures, industries and technologies,” said IS Kim, president and CEO of Samsung Electronics Europe. “Samsung’s world class cutting-edge design and technical skills are the perfect match for Adidas’ sporting excellence. Together, we can help sports enthusiasts of all ages and abilities to unleash their true potential and have fun doing it.”

The announcement came one day after Apple and Nike unveiled their plan to bring Nike+ and iPod technology to the gyms. Together with several gym equipment manufacturers, Nike and Apple want to give people exactly the same chance as any professional athlete: set goals, track progress, challenge themselves. “It’s a groundbreaking too for people who want to maximize their workouts.” As it appears, combining physical training and technology is an upward trend, and the market begins to expand.
