Sony Ericsson New Patent

Sony Ericsson has filed another patent, called "Portable electronic device with multiple input interfaces".
An electronic device has a main body, a flip attached to the main body and multiple input interfaces. A first input interface is disposed on the main body of the electronic device. Second and third input interfaces are disposed on apposing sides of the flip. The flip covers at least a part of the first input interface when the flip is in a closed position. The flip is rotatable so that either the second or third interface can be selectively used when the flip is in the closed position.

Sony Ericsson has launched a new campaign promoting their newly released W890 Walkman candybar phone. The whole point of the site is to create a new Guiness World record of the longest participants in one recorded song.

You just need to shoot a video of yourself singing and performing Depeche Mode's "Enjoy The Silence". Even if you don't want to participate, head on over to see the people who have participated.

Sony Ericsson T303 goes live

Sony Ericsson today revealed T303, a new mid-end compact slider phone targeted to the mass market with its good looks and price. The Sony Ericsson T303 has been rumored throughout the past week and now it finally meets the bright light of day. Sony Ericsson T303 has a nice appearance thanks to its metal housing and chrome finish, as well as a mirrored screen. The 65K TFT display itself is rather small with its 1.8" and 128 x 160 pixels resolution.
The phone is packed with decent set of features as FM Radio, TrackID, 1.3 megapixel camera and Bluetooth. A serious downside however is that the T303 doesn't have a memory card slot, while its internal memory is only 8MB.

Sony Ericsson T303 measures 83 x 47 x 14.7 mm and weighs 93 grams and will be available in Shimmering Silver and Shadow Black colors.

Sony Ericsson T303/T303c is a tri-band GSM/GPRS 900/1800/1900 phone for Europe and China respectively but there is also an American version T303a with GSM/GPRS 850/1800/1900 bands support.A certain point of interest is that the Sony Ericsson T303 follows the new Sony Ericsson naming convention that I posted earlier.

Sony Ericsson T303 will be available is selected markets from mid 2008.

New Sony Ericsson slider leaked!

Here I have some very interesting live pics of new Sony Ericsson slider handsets. The following pics are from se4m and these guys also leaked the pic of this new clamshell. I wonder where they get these pictures? Anyways, like you can see that this slider handset appears to be a mid or a low-end device with quite compact size. It's a way smaller than the W910i and the keypad seems to be something like the Motorola RAZR has. This slider seems to have a camera too. Unfortunately these pictures are too blurry, so I can't tell you more. It also looks like this handsets has a brushed metal finish, which is a good thing of course.

New Sony Ericsson naming scheme

According to m-one from se-world, Sony Ericsson will be changing their naming scheme to something a bit more sophisticated. The name will still be in the same format as before, a letter followed by 3 numbers. Only now, all the characters have a meaning. The following chart pretty much sums it up.

The first letter represents the series.
C = Cyber-shot
W = Walkman
S = Snapshot (not swivel like in the S700 or style like in the S500)

The second slot is occupied by a number and indicates whether the phone is high, mid or low end. 9 is the highest and 1 is the lowest.

I didn't quite understand the third slot (it's in German) except that it's something to do with versions.

The fourth and last slot indicates the form factor of the device.
0/1/2 = candybar
3/5 = slider
6/7/8 = clamshell
9 = other form factors

Sony Ericsson clamshell leaked?

You can see a very interesting and stylish clamshell and there's a one very interesting detail. If I see right, there's a Sony Ericsson watermark which says "confidential" Although I'm not totally sure about it.

There are no info about the specs but this phone might have a GPS. Take a look at the bottom left. There's a text "Always know your location"

Sony Ericsson with new interface for selected handset

Ericsson have launched the "Ericsson Multimedia Communication Suite (MCS)", with the goal of integrating web 2.0 content feeds in to the UI. The UI will be making an appearance on select devices, such as the SE W760i

End users will have access to new services from existing applications - so for example, knowing presence information about friends through the contat listing in their address book.
The research completed by Ericsson prior to product launch, showed that there is strong demand for the mobilisation of communication services on the internet - for example chat, sending files and presence.

The intuitive user interface integrates new MCS applications such as chat and file transfer smoothly with existing voice, video call, SMS and MMS services. In addition, hanging features such as presence off the address book enables a connected device experience.

Ericsson MCS will initially be available for selected Sony Ericsson feature phones. The MCS is built on IMS architecture, and has been developed with the Rich Communication Suite (RCS) in mind - this aims for broad industry interoperability and acceptance by utilizing standardized IMS service features.

Sony Ericsson in Mobile World Congress 2008

At a dedicated event in Barcelona, Sony Ericsson were announced 7 brand new handsets and almost all of them seem pretty tempting. Now I'll talk about G700 and G900 both are new Symbian UIQ smartphones with conservative looks.

The two phones have identical dimensions and feature the same 2.4" 262K-color QVGA TFT touchscreen displays. Sony Ericsson G700 and G900 will be tri-band handsets with 3G capabilities. They will also sport stereo Bluetooth and 160MB of internal memory. The memory is further expandable through the built-in Memory Stick Micro card slot.

Sony Ericsson G700
Despite the Symbian UIQ, the user interface is very simplified, taking after the standart non-smartphone Sony Ericsson user interface. Sony Ericsson G700 has a very convenient one-touch full organiser function accessible from the home screen, as well as a touch-controlled Notes application, while the G900 home screen is equiped with one-touch media functions.

Sony Ericsson G900

The Sony Ericsson G900 sports a 5 megapixel autofocus camera with image and video stabilizer, while the G700 has a 3.2 megapixel camera with no autofocus, yet the image and video stabilizer are on-board. An intriguing feature of G900 is the ability to manually select the focus point when you shoot just by tapping on the display. Another feature Sony Ericsson G900 has over the G700 is the Wi-Fi connectivity.

Sony Ericsson G700 and G900 will both hit the shelves in Q2 2008. The G700 will come in Silk Bronze color, while the G900 will have a Dark Red and a Dark Brown color version.

Sony Ericsson with XPERIA X1 in Barcelona

Meet the XPERIA X1. Sony Ericsson presented XPERIA as a brand of its own and they intend to develop it in parallel with their other devices. XPERIA X1, with the "arc slider" form factor, is the device to usher in the new lineup.
The couple of highlights of the XPERIA X1 are most definitely the 3-inch WVGA touchscreen display, as well as the optical joystick navigation. Besides, almost all connectivity media are present - from a 3.5mm audio jack to GPS, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth v2.0 with A2DP, everything is on board. Typing is sweet with the slide-out QWERTY keyboard, while the 9 available home screens should suit every scenario and all user preferences. The multimedia set includes FM radio without RDS and Media player.
The Sony Ericsson XPERIA X1 also has a 3.2 megapixel camera and will come with 400MB of internal storage. It is expandable through the microSD card slot. The handset will have support for all the four GSM network bands and four 3G network bands as well. HSDPA and HSUPA ensure the quick data transfers around.

Sony Ericsson XPERIA X1 will be powered by a 500MHz ARM CPU and is expected to hit the shelves in the second half of 2008.

At this stage there is no info about its pricing.

Sony Ericsson patents detachable screen mobile concept

As described in a patent application called “Detachable Housings for a Wireless Communication Device“, mobile phone has two detachably connected housings.
One of them can hold user interface devices such as keypad, keyboard, touchpad, joystick control, etc; for data input and control. Other things, such as GPS receiver, microphone, camera and battery go in there, too.

The second housing will hold a display with some user input buttons and all the necessary phone circuitry, application processor and memory, another battery.
When separated, both housings communicate with each other via short range communication module, e.g. Bluetooth.

What’s more, the housings are designed so, that they can be joined in different orientations. E.g. with the main display on the inside or outside of the clamshell phone, when closed.

The detachable housing design is also not limited to clamshell form factor. It can be applied to “jack-knife” and slider phones as well.

Sony Ericsson W380i got a new color - Black Champagne

Sony Ericsson W380i Walkman clamshell handset isn't even in stores yet. The W380i was announced on November with two colors: Electric Purple and Magnetic Grey. Now Sony Ericsson have added a new color called Black Champagne. Seems like black got something magical because recently Sony Ericsson have added black color for the K850i and T650i.

The W380i is a stylish Walkman handset. It combines a unique clamshell design with all the music cred users expect from Sony Ericsson’s Walkman phones. The phone packs in never-seen before features, including Gesture control which allows users to mute calls with a wave of their hands. There is also an external display that comes to life only when you need it; to show the name of a music track or to let you know who is calling.

SMS from legend inspires Sharapova

MARIA SHARAPOVA powered her way to a first Australian Open title with an impressive straight sets victory over Ana Ivanovic - and revealed a text from legend Billie Jean King had inspired her to glory. Sharapova ground down fourth seed Ivanovic in the ‘battle of the babes’, taking just one hour, 31 minutes to win 7-5, 6-3 and complete her mission to make amends for her thrashing at the hands of Serena Williams in last year’s final.

A text from the great of the women’s game read: “champions take chances and pressure’s a privilege”. And Sharapova said: “I had those great words in my mind during the match.” [via 7Days]

I want to add in this post the official pic of Sharapova for Sony Ericsson. And truly I love this one, Cute and Hot!!!
